Dome Town Tree Weave
This Tree Weave installation is located at a forest retreat high in the canopy of the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. The incredible tree house building company Canopy Crew has just completed a stunning resort centered around suspension bridges that connect tree platforms. Each tree platform holds up a geodesic dome that is up for rental on Airbnb. There is a communal area with a kitchen, bathrooms, and a huge deck with a BBQ and hammocks. We built our Tree Weave off of one of the highest decks located between two long suspension bridges, in the center of the preserve.
The Tree Weave itself is suspended between two maple trees, one red oak, and connected to the steel supports on the underside of the floating tree deck. The walls are suspended off the suspension cables of the bridge itself, which gives the entrance of the net a very warped appearance that is extremely, visually appealing. The net is super bouncy and can be used as a trampoline. In the corners are a seat and a basket.
The floors ended up being a solid sea of Goldenrod and the walls a blend of Midnight Blue and Caribbean. This wasn’t a project where we were allowed much creative freedom around the colors, but the pallet ended up looking quite striking and elegant. If we were to do a solid yellow floor again in the future, we would prefer to blend multiple shades of yellow, or cut the goldenrod with a contrasting color.
